Oven Down? Same- or Next-Day Repair in Metro Atlanta

An oven always seems to fail on the worst possible day: the morning of Thanksgiving, the afternoon of a birthday dinner, the week family is in town. A cold oven does not spoil food the way a warm refrigerator does, but it can wreck plans just as fast. Emergency Fridge Repair sends experienced technicians across Metro Atlanta to repair gas and electric ovens, usually with a same- or next-day visit.

Our phones are answered 24/7. Call (770) 334-4410 or fill in the form on this page, and a dispatcher will call you back to set the visit.

Gas Smell or Smoke? Act First, Then Call

If you smell gas, do not turn on the oven, light a burner, use a light switch or unplug anything. Get everyone out of the house and call your gas utility's leak line or 911 from a safe distance. We repair the oven after the gas side has been made safe.

If a carbon monoxide alarm sounds, go outside and call 911.

If you see sparks or smell burning plastic from an electric oven, switch off its breaker at the panel and keep the door closed.

When nothing like that is happening, a few quick checks can save a visit:

  1. Reset the breaker. Electric ovens and ranges run on a double breaker. Switch it fully off and back on: a supply problem on one side can leave the clock on while the oven stays cold.
  2. Clear the timers. A delay-start or cook-time setting left on can stop the oven from heating.
  3. Look for a lock symbol. The control lock or a door lock after self-clean keeps many ovens from starting.
  4. Watch the bake element. On electric ovens with a visible element, a blister, a break or a dark section means it has failed.
  5. On a gas oven, try a burner on top. If the cooktop lights, gas is reaching the range.

Oven Problems We Treat as Urgent

  • No heat at all. Electric: a failed bake element, a relay on the control board or a thermal fuse. Gas: a weak igniter or a gas valve that will not open.
  • The igniter glows, but there is no flame. Many gas ovens use a glowing igniter that must draw enough current to open the gas valve. A worn igniter can glow and still be too weak.
  • Preheating takes far longer than it used to. A tired igniter, a weak element or a sensor reading wrong.
  • Food burns underneath and stays pale on top. The broil element, the convection fan or a sensor out of calibration.
  • The oven runs much hotter or cooler than the setting. The temperature sensor, an older mechanical thermostat or the control.
  • The door is stuck locked after self-clean. The lock motor or lock switch has failed, or the control still reads the oven as hot.
  • The oven quit during or right after self-clean. The cycle's high heat can blow a thermal fuse or damage the control.
  • An error code with beeping. Note or photograph the code before you call.
  • The convection fan grinds or will not turn. A worn motor or bearing.

What We Fix

How an Urgent Oven Call Works

First, the call. A person answers 24/7. We note the brand, gas or electric, wall oven or range, the symptom and your ZIP code, then book the earliest window we have, usually same- or next-day.

Then the diagnosis. The technician tests the elements or the igniter, the gas valve on gas models, the temperature sensor, the thermal fuse, the door lock and the control. You get a clear explanation of what failed and what the repair involves before any work starts, and you decide.

Finally, the repair and a test bake. We install genuine or OEM-approved parts, heat the oven and confirm the temperature with our own thermometer. Parts and labor on the oven repair carry a warranty of up to 6 months.

What the Technician Checks

Heat sources. Bake and broil elements on electric ovens, including hidden bake elements under the oven floor. On gas ovens, the hot-surface igniter and the bake and broil burners.

Gas control. The safety valve opens only when the igniter signals that it is hot enough. When the igniter weakens, the valve stays closed and no gas flows. That is the safety design working; the worn igniter is what needs replacing.

Temperature control. The sensor on the back wall reports to the control board, and the board switches the heat on and off. Ovens naturally swing a little above and below the setting as they cycle.

Safety devices. The thermal fuse cuts power when part of the oven overheats. When it trips, the oven goes dead until the fuse is replaced and the cause is found.

Door and lock. Hinges, the gasket and the self-clean lock assembly. A door that does not close tight lets heat escape and causes uneven baking.

Convection. The fan motor and, on true convection models, the extra element around it.

Ovens We Repair

  • Range ovens below gas, electric, induction and dual-fuel cooktops. For cooktop problems, see our stove and range repair page.
  • Single and double wall ovens, including combination units with a speed oven or microwave on top.
  • Convection ovens and ovens with steam-assisted modes.
  • Professional-style and built-in ovens with heavier electronics.
  • Older ovens with mechanical dials and thermostats.

Brands We Service

We service ovens from GE, GE Profile, GE Café, Whirlpool, KitchenAid, Frigidaire, Maytag, Samsung, LG, Bosch, Electrolux, Kenmore, Amana and Hotpoint, as well as Wolf, Thermador, Viking, Monogram, Jenn-Air, Miele, Dacor, BlueStar, Bertazzoni and Gaggenau. Years of work on these ovens is part of what each technician brings.

Emergency Fridge Repair is an independent repair company, not affiliated with or endorsed by any oven or range manufacturer. Brand names are listed only to describe the ovens we repair.

Repair or Replace an Oven?

Most oven repairs are worth doing. Elements, igniters, sensors, thermal fuses, locks and relays are standard parts, and a wall oven is especially worth repairing because a replacement has to fit the exact cabinet cutout.

Replacement deserves a thought when a very old oven needs a control board that is no longer available, or when a range has heavy rust and a damaged cooktop on top of the oven fault. If that is the case, we tell you directly so you can choose with clear information.

Avoiding the Next Oven Breakdown

  • Do not run self-clean right before a big meal. If the cycle trips a fuse or a lock, you lose the oven when you need it most.
  • Wipe up spills early so you need the self-clean cycle less often.
  • Keep foil off the oven floor. It can trap heat and damage the finish and hidden elements.
  • Check the temperature with an oven thermometer now and then.
  • Do not lean on the open door or use it as a step. Bent hinges make for a leaky door.
  • Keep the door gasket clean and leave it in place when you scrub the door.

Emergency FAQ

Oven Repair FAQ

Can you come today if my oven dies before a holiday dinner?

We offer same- or next-day visits in most of Metro Atlanta. Call as early as you can, since our phones are answered 24/7 and early calls get the earliest windows.

Why does my gas oven igniter glow but not light?

Many gas ovens need the igniter to reach a certain strength before the gas valve opens. A worn igniter can glow brightly and still not open the valve. Replacing the igniter is a common repair.

What should I do if my oven smells like gas?

Turn nothing on or off, leave the home and call your gas utility's leak line or 911 from outside. Do not use the oven until the gas side has been checked.

My oven door will not unlock after self-clean. Can I force it?

No. Let the oven cool fully and try again. If the lock still holds, the lock motor or switch has failed, and forcing it can break the latch.

Why does my oven temperature not match the setting?

Ovens cycle slightly above and below the setting. A large, steady difference usually means a sensor or control problem, which we can test and repair.

Do you repair wall ovens and range ovens?

Yes. We repair single and double wall ovens, combination units and the ovens in gas, electric and dual-fuel ranges.

How long is an oven repair covered?

A warranty of up to 6 months applies to the parts and labor on our oven repairs.

Are you an oven brand service center?

No. We are an independent, family-owned repair company, and brands are named only to show which ovens we service.
