Stove or Cooktop Down? Same- or Next-Day Repair in Metro Atlanta

When the cooktop goes down, the kitchen goes down with it. One dead burner is an annoyance; a range that will not light at all, a glass top with a crack across it or an induction zone that keeps flashing means takeout until someone fixes it. Emergency Fridge Repair repairs gas, electric, glass-top and induction ranges and cooktops in homes across Metro Atlanta, usually with a same- or next-day visit.

A dispatcher answers our phones 24/7. Call (770) 334-4410 or use the form on this page and tell us the brand, the fuel type and what the cooktop is doing.

Stove Problems We Hear About Most

  • The gas burner clicks but never lights. Blocked burner ports, a misaligned cap, a cracked igniter or a weak spark from the module.
  • Clicking continues after the burner is off. Moisture in the igniter or a faulty spark switch behind the knob.
  • A yellow, ragged or lifting flame. A healthy natural-gas flame is mostly blue. Clogged ports or an air-mix problem should be checked.
  • A coil element heats only on high, or not at all. The element, a burned receptacle or a failed infinite switch.
  • A glass-top zone will not heat. The radiant element, its limiter, the switch or the control board.
  • An induction zone flashes and will not heat. First test the pan with a magnet: induction needs magnetic cookware. If the magnet sticks, a sensor, cooling fan or power board is likely.
  • The hot-surface light will not turn off, or never comes on.
  • Knobs spin freely or touch controls ignore you. Worn stems, a broken switch or a failed touch panel.
  • The oven below has a problem too. That part is on our oven repair page.

What We Fix

How an Urgent Stove Call Works

We answer. A person picks up 24/7 and takes the brand, gas, electric or induction, range or cooktop, the symptom and your ZIP code. We book the earliest window, usually same- or next-day.

We diagnose. On gas models the technician checks igniters, the spark module and switches, burner ports and the gas valves. On electric and induction models we test elements, switches, wiring, sensors and boards. You hear what failed and what the repair involves before any work starts, and the decision is yours.

We repair and test every burner. Genuine or OEM-approved parts go in, then every burner or zone is lit or heated and every control is checked. A warranty of up to 6 months covers the stove repair, parts and labor.

Inside a Range: What Can Fail

On gas cooktops and ranges: igniters and electrodes, the spark module, spark switches on each valve, burner heads and caps, and the burner valves themselves. Pro-style ranges add larger burners, griddles and grills with their own igniters.

On electric coil ranges: the coil elements, the receptacles they plug into and the infinite switches that control each element's heat.

On radiant glass tops: elements under the glass with their limiters, switches or touch controls, relays on the control board, hot-surface lights and the glass itself.

On induction cooktops: the induction coils, the power and generator boards, the cooling fans that protect the electronics and the touch control panel. A light buzz at high power with some pans is normal for induction and does not mean a fault.

On every range: the anti-tip bracket. When we pull a freestanding range out, we check that the bracket is in place, because it keeps the range from tipping forward if weight lands on the open oven door.

Ranges and Cooktops We Repair

  • Freestanding and slide-in ranges — gas, electric and dual-fuel.
  • Drop-in and built-in cooktops — gas, radiant glass and induction.
  • Professional-style ranges with high-output burners, griddles and grills.
  • Rangetops installed in an island or counter.
  • Older coil-element stoves with mechanical switches, still very much worth repairing.

Brands We Service

We service stoves, ranges and cooktops from GE, GE Profile, GE Café, Whirlpool, Frigidaire, Samsung, LG, KitchenAid, Maytag, Bosch, Electrolux, Kenmore, Amana and Hotpoint, and from Wolf, Viking, Thermador, Monogram, Jenn-Air, Miele, Dacor, BlueStar, Bertazzoni, Gaggenau and Fisher & Paykel. Our technicians have spent years working on these ranges and cooktops.

We are an independent repair company. Emergency Fridge Repair has no affiliation with, or endorsement from, any range or cooktop manufacturer, and brand names here only describe the cooking appliances we repair.

Repair or Replace a Range?

Most stove and cooktop repairs are worth doing. Igniters, spark modules, switches, elements and receptacles are standard parts, and slide-in and professional-style ranges are large investments to replace.

The harder cases are an older, low-end cooktop with a cracked glass top, where the new glass comes close to what a new cooktop would run, and ranges whose control board has been discontinued. In those cases we explain the options plainly and let you choose.

How to Prevent the Next Stove Breakdown

  • Clean spills after the burner cools, before they bake into the ports and the igniter.
  • Dry burner parts completely after washing and set the caps back evenly.
  • Use flat-bottomed cookware on glass and induction tops, and lift heavy pots instead of sliding them.
  • Keep the cooktop clear. Boxes and bags left on top of a range are a fire risk if a knob gets bumped.
  • Keep a magnet handy if you cook on induction, to test new pans.
  • Do not stand on the open oven door or let children climb on it.

Stop Signs: When Not to Use the Cooktop

Some stove problems are repairs. Others are hazards that come first.

You smell gas

Do not light a burner, use the igniter, turn lights on or off or unplug anything. Get everyone outside and call your gas utility's leak line or 911 from outside.

The glass or ceramic top is cracked

Switch the cooktop off at the breaker and do not use it, even on the burners that still heat. Spills can reach the wiring through the crack.

A radiant element stays on high and will not turn off

Shut the breaker. A stuck switch or relay can keep heating with the knob off.

You see sparks, scorch marks or smell burning plastic

around a coil element or the controls. Turn off the breaker.

If none of those apply, these quick checks often save a call:

  1. Reseat the burner caps on a gas cooktop. A cap knocked slightly off center after cleaning keeps the burner from lighting evenly.
  2. Dry out a wet burner. After a boil-over the igniter can click nonstop until it dries, which can take a day.
  3. Swap coil elements of the same size on an electric coil range, with everything off and cool, to see whether the element or the socket is at fault.
  4. Reset the double breaker. Electric ranges use one. Switch it fully off and back on, because a supply problem on one side can leave some elements dead.
  5. Look for a lock symbol on glass and induction controls. The child lock is easy to turn on by accident.

Emergency FAQ

Stove & Range Repair FAQ

The burner sparks, but no flame appears. What is wrong?

The most common causes are clogged burner ports, a cap out of position, a wet or cracked igniter and a weak spark. Clean and dry the burner and reseat the cap. If it still will not light, the spark parts need testing.

My burner keeps clicking after I turn it off. Is that dangerous?

It is not a gas leak by itself, but it should be repaired. Moisture in the igniter or switch is the usual cause; if it continues once everything is dry, a spark switch or the spark module has failed.

Can I keep using a cooktop with a cracked glass top?

No. Turn it off at the breaker and leave it off until the glass top is replaced.

Why is my induction cooktop not heating the pan?

Induction only heats magnetic cookware. If a magnet sticks firmly to the bottom of the pan and the zone still will not heat, a sensor, fan or power board has likely failed.

Do you repair professional-style and dual-fuel ranges?

Yes, including large gas rangetops and dual-fuel ranges with electric ovens.

How soon can a technician look at my range?

Same- or next-day in most of Metro Atlanta. Calls early in the day get the earliest windows.

How long is a stove or cooktop repair covered?

Up to 6 months of warranty applies to the parts and labor of every stove, range and cooktop repair we do.

Are you connected to the range manufacturers?

No. We are an independent, family-owned repair company. Brands are named only to show which ranges and cooktops we service.
